How the Buzz Index Works
A subject's buzz score is the percentage of Yahoo! users searching for that subject on a given day, multiplied by a constant to make the number easier to read. Weekly leaders are the subjects with the greatest average buzz score for a given week.

Ready for Rihanna?

Rihanna
Rihanna
Who's next in the diva parade? Well, Def Jam label head Jay-Z might have our next captivating songstress squarely in his stable if buzz is any indication. Searches on red-hot Rihanna are up 65% over the last week and show no signs of abating. The beautiful 17-year-old from Barbados is now in our top 200 search terms, strictly on the strength of her debut single. And what a single it is...

Rihanna's "Pon De Replay" is the perfect summer song -- a breezy, dancehall-flavored tune with an infectious beat. Searches on the delicious ditty were up another 40% this week, and it's in our top three song searches. It's also safely in our top 300 searches -- a sure sign that it's cracked mass consciousness with its catchiness. Related searches also on the rise include: "Pon De Replay lyrics" (+15%), "Rihanna Pon De Replay lyrics" (+106%), and "Rihanna lyrics" (+10%).

Rihanna's popularity thus far lies with the ladies, who are doing three-quarters of the searches. And the teenage phenom is attracting searchers from within her demo -- 71% of searches are from the under-21 crowd -- the most influential audience for any music artist looking to break out. Can she ride the "Replay" popularity into a spot in the diva procession, or will she fizzle out and become a one-hit wonder? Only buzz will tell...
